Embracing GENVY and Focusing on Your Race

Green with ENVY

Have you ever been just filled with envy? Like, you just can’t imagine how that person has that and you don’t. Why not me? Or they have some thing God told you was also yours but you have to wait. And you don’t like waiting. They are just sitting over there with all happy and you are green with envy. Well recently, God helped me come to grips with my envy. Something, I can struggle with from time to time. My eyes are frequently watching someone else run their race and wanting what they have. But you know what, I only seem to catch the end of their race.

If I can trust God to save my soul, then . . .

During my most recent struggle, I wrote down that I need to stop looking enviously at people’s blessing because I can’t see their pain. I don’t see the hurdles they had to jump, I don’t see the trials, the test, the lost. I am just seeing the results. I need to shift into seeing that if God did it for them then he can do it for me. After all, if I can trust God to save my soul, then I can trust him to ___________. (Heard that in a sermon and it blew my mind.) I can fill in the blank with anything. It helped me realize that my envy comes from a places of limitations and lack of trust. Putting limits on God and not trusting that if he did it for them then he can do it for me.

GEVY is IN!!

So, I looked up the word envy and made up a new word, GENVY. Genvy is defined as a desire to have a quality, possession or other desirable attribute that God created me to have, realizing that no one has my stuff but God. I am praying for God to remove all envy of others and give me genvy for what he has for me.

Take a minute or two and write down the areas or things that bring out the envy in you. What just makes you want to quit everything when you someone else with it?

Now, let’s release all of that to God. Proverbs says that envy will rot your bones. We have to let all of that go and find peace in the waiting, peace in the running, and peace in the watching.

If envy is something that you struggle with then pray this prayer

God,

Help me to realize that you are who you say you are and that you never run out of miracles. Fill me with overwhelming joy when I see people running their race and receiving abundant blessings. Remind me that if you did it for them, then you can do it for me. After all, if I can trust you to save my soul, then I can trust you to ____________.
