Here's my worship, take joy in it Make it your dwelling place, I wanna put a smile on your face I present my heart to you, I present my life to you Here's my worship, smile, Here's my life Lord, smile Smile by Tasha Cobbs Leonard
“Here’s my worship, take joy in it..,” I mean c’mon. Those lyrics! Tasha Cobbs knows she can sang. Lately, this song has been on repeat in my head. Here’s my worship, smile. Here’s my life Lord, smile. I try to imagine God smiling, because I’m worshiping him.
But that word worship. What does it mean? What does it look like? You probably imagined someone standing with their hands raised swaying back and forth singing. Yes, I would love to say that I spend an hour a day worshiping God by singing hymns and praise dancing. But, the way my life is currently set up I have not been able to get that into the rhythm of my day. How else can I worship? How else can I show devotion to God? I try to live my life in such a way that God smiles because of whatever I am doing. I worship doing the dishes, taking out the trash, exercising, writing this blog, cooking, and on and on. All tasks that are on my to-do list can be worship. Especially those that keep my body (flesh) busy, but don’t always involve my mind and soul. I listen to worship music or a sermon while doing the dishes. I listen to bible verses being read while getting my daughter ready in the morning. I try to multitask as much as possible, because it never seems like there is enough time in the day.
If I stop for a second and take a breath. God called me to be a mother and a wife. And in my life, being a mother means dressing my daughters, washing dishes, vacuuming the floor, and doing laundry. I have a basket of laundry sitting next to me right now. Me folding these clothes is worship all by itself. In Colossians 3:23-24, it say And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ. You are already worshiping. It just may not look like you imagined. 1 Corinthians 10:31 says “Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” As a mom or any busy person, you can get to the end of the day and think did God care about any of that. The answer is yes. He cares about it all and when done right he sees is a worship. From picking up toys for the 10th time or giving that presentation in that business meeting.
And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ.
Colossians 3:23-24
Determine what you do that you think would make God smile and that is your way of worshiping.
Still feel like you are to busy and aren’t sure how to incorporate more worship into your day. Here are some ways to worship that should make you start to rethink your definition of it.
- Be obedient. Do what he told you to do. If it’s exercise then exercise, if it’s feed the homeless than do that.
- Listen to the bible. You don’t just have to read it
- Listen to sermons . They are not restricted to just Sunday
- Listen to worship music while cleaning the house
- Find ways to share a bible verse with others. Post it on social media
- Find ways to help someone else.
- Observe the sabbath. I’ll post my approach to sabbath soon.
Now, pick one try it out and see how it works for you.
